You just received your Ghost Phone and need to turn it on for the first time.
Locate the power button on the right side of the phone (it's the button above the volume buttons)
Press and hold the power button for about 3 seconds
You'll feel a small vibration and the screen will light up
The phone will take a moment to boot up. You'll see the GrapheneOS logo appear on screen.
Once it's fully loaded, follow the on-screen instructions to set your language, connect to Wi-Fi, and set up a PIN or password
Your Ghost Phone is ready to use.
Tip: To turn OFF your Ghost Phone, press and hold the Power button + Volume Up at the same time. Then tap "Power Off."
Tip: To restart your Ghost Phone, press and hold the Power button + Volume Up at the same time. Then tap "Restart."
Tip: If your phone doesn't turn on, plug it into the included USB-C charger and let it charge for at least 15 minutes before trying again. The battery may have drained during shipping.
You need to activate phone service on your Ghost Phone using an eSIM from your carrier
Before you begin: Contact your phone carrier and request an eSIM. You can do this by calling customer service or visiting a physical store. They'll provide you with a QR code (either physical or digital).
Open Settings on your Ghost Phone
Go to Network & internet → SIMs
Enable "Use eSIM" (toggle it on)
Restart your phone (important, don't skip this step)
After restart, open the Camera app
Swipe left to switch to "QR Scanner" mode
Scan the eSIM QR code provided by your carrier
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete activation
Your phone service should activate within a few minutes
Troubleshooting: If you're receiving calls but not texts after switching from iPhone, you need to deregister from iMessage: https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage
Troubleshooting: Make sure "Mobile data" is enabled in Settings → Network & internet → SIMs
Your Ghost Phone supports two active numbers at the same time — one physical SIM and one eSIM. Here's how to set both up.
Step 1: Insert Your Physical SIM — Power off your Ghost Phone. Use the SIM tool (or a small paperclip) to open the SIM tray on the side of the device. Place your SIM card in the tray and reinsert it. Power the phone back on. Your physical SIM will activate automatically — you'll see signal bars at the top of the screen.
Step 2: Activate Your eSIM — You'll need an eSIM from a carrier that supports eSIM activation (most major carriers do). Get your eSIM QR code from your carrier — it's usually emailed to you after you purchase a plan. We recommend phreeli.com.
On your Ghost Phone, go to Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs.
Tap Add eSIM or the + icon.
Tap Scan QR code and scan the QR code from your carrier.
Follow the on-screen prompts to activate.
Once active, you'll see both SIMs listed under the SIMs menu.
Step 3: Configure Your Two Lines — Once both are active, go to Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs to set your preferences.
Default for calls: choose which number is used when you dial out.
Default for texts: choose which number sends SMS/MMS.
Default for data: choose which line handles your internet connection.
You can also assign a label and color to each SIM so they're easy to tell apart.
Tips: When making a call, you can manually choose which SIM to use by tapping the SIM selector on the dial screen. GrapheneOS does not limit or interfere with dual-SIM functionality — both lines work fully.
Your voicemail is in Spanish or you can't figure out how to configure voicemail settings.
Answer: Voicemail is controlled by your carrier (the company providing your phone service), not by your Ghost Phone itself.
To set up or reset your voicemail, contact your carrier:
Verizon: Call 1-800-922-0204
AT&T: Dial 611 from your phone
T-Mobile: Dial 611 from your phone
Other carriers: Check your carrier's website for voicemail support
Your carrier's customer service can reset your voicemail language to English and walk you through the complete setup process.
You need a privacy-focused phone service that doesn't require personal data to sign up
Visit phreeli.com - a privacy-focused phone service provider
Choose your plan without filling in any personal data
Phreeli.com is designed for maximum privacy and works perfectly with your Ghost Phone
No personal information required for signup, maintaining your anonymity
You want to keep your existing phone number but switch from Consumer Cellular to Phreeli, a privacy-focused carrier that requires no personal information.
Step 1 — Sign up with Phreeli: Go to phreeli.com and create an account. Only your ZIP+4, a username, and payment are required — no name needed. Choose your plan, then order either a physical SIM card or eSIM.
Step 2 — Install your Phreeli SIM: Physical SIM: insert it into your Ghost Phone. eSIM: scan the QR code Phreeli provides and activate it through your phone settings.
Step 3 — Gather your Consumer Cellular account info: Log into your Consumer Cellular account at consumercellular.com. Locate your 9-digit account number. Confirm your PIN (typically the last 4 digits of your SSN). Make sure your name and address on the account are current and accurate — any mismatch will cause the transfer to fail. Do NOT cancel your Consumer Cellular service yet.
Step 4 — Submit your number transfer through Phreeli: Log into your Phreeli account and click "Transfer Your Number." Fill out the form with your Consumer Cellular phone number, your 9-digit account number, your PIN, and your name and address exactly as it appears on your Consumer Cellular account.
Step 5 — Wait for the transfer to complete: The transfer typically completes within a few hours to 1 business day. Your Consumer Cellular account will automatically close once complete — no need to cancel it manually.
Step 6 — Confirm everything is working: Test calls, texts, and data on your Ghost Phone.
Note: If the Phreeli portal looks like it reset after submitting, do not resubmit — contact Phreeli support first to confirm your request went through.
Phreeli is getting attention as a privacy-focused carrier that only requires a ZIP code to sign up. But does that actually mean your network is secure, or is it just a different version of the same problem?
What Phreeli Is Actually Doing: Traditional carriers like Verizon and AT&T store your name, payment method, and phone activity all in one place. That one database gets sold to data brokers, handed to advertisers, and subpoenaed by agencies. Phreeli's "Double-Blind Armadillo" system splits those three things into isolated databases that cannot talk to each other. The payment processor never learns your phone number. The phone system never learns your name. Even Phreeli itself cannot connect the dots. So from a corporate surveillance standpoint, yes, your network is genuinely more secure. There is no profile to sell because no profile exists.
Where Phreeli Has Real Limits: Phreeli runs on T-Mobile's network. That means the towers are still T-Mobile's, and T-Mobile still sees which devices connect to which towers and when. A federal agency with a warrant can subpoena T-Mobile directly and bypass Phreeli entirely. On top of that, if you signed up using a regular credit card or standard cryptocurrency, that payment trail can potentially lead back to you. Your phone's hardware ID (IMEI) also gets transmitted to towers regardless of which carrier you use. In a targeted federal investigation, pieces of it can still be tracked. Phreeli cannot change the physics of how cell towers work.
Why a Ghost Phone Changes the Equation: Even on a private carrier like Phreeli, a standard Android phone is constantly sending data back to Google. Your location, app usage, behavior patterns, and advertising ID are all being reported in the background, completely separate from your carrier. Phreeli has no control over that. A Ghost Phone running GrapheneOS removes that entire layer. No Google services. No advertising ID. No background reporting. The OS itself is built around the idea that your phone should not be surveilling you.
When you pair Phreeli with a Ghost Phone, you are closing two very different vulnerabilities at once. Phreeli handles the carrier level. GrapheneOS handles the device level. That combination is what actually makes your network and your activity meaningfully private.
The Bottom Line: No setup is completely untraceable. But the right question is not "can this ever be tracked" but rather "who is tracking me, and why." For the threats most people actually face — data brokers, advertisers, app surveillance, and corporate data harvesting — Phreeli plus a Ghost Phone is about as protected as you can get on a modern smartphone. You are not doing anything wrong. You just do not want to be watched and profited off of every single day.
You're unsure whether your Ghost Phone requires antivirus protection like traditional smartphones.
Answer: No, you do NOT need antivirus software on your Ghost Phone.
GrapheneOS (your phone's operating system) is built from the ground up for security. Unlike regular Android phones, it has hardened security architecture that makes traditional viruses and malware extremely difficult to install.
Adding antivirus software would actually be redundant and could potentially reduce your privacy by introducing unnecessary background processes and data collection.
Your Ghost Phone's security comes from its design, not from third-party antivirus apps.
You want to know if your Ghost Phone can be used for GPS navigation without being tracked.
Answer: Yes! Your Ghost Phone has full GPS capability with complete privacy.
The key difference from regular smartphones is that YOUR phone processes GPS signals locally - nothing is sent to Google, Apple, or any third party. You can navigate privately without your location being tracked or stored by corporations.
The GPS hardware works completely offline. No internet connection is required for GPS functionality.
For navigation apps, visit ghostphone.co/resources and scroll to the "Privacy Friendly Navigation App" section for our recommended mapping solutions.
You notice that websites can estimate your location even when you haven't enabled GPS or location services on your Ghost Phone.
Answer: What you're seeing is IP-based geolocation, not GPS tracking.
When you connect to WiFi or cellular data, websites can estimate your general area (usually within 10-50 miles) based on your internet provider's location. This is much less precise than GPS and doesn't track your movements - it just knows roughly what city or region your internet connection originates from.
Key differences:
IP geolocation: General region only (10-50 mile radius)
GPS tracking: Precise location within a few meters
Solution: To prevent even IP-based location detection, use a VPN:
Visit ghostphone.co/resources
Scroll down to "How to Install Aurora OSS Store on Your Ghost Phone" and follow the instructions
Once Aurora Store is installed, search for "Proton VPN"
Install Proton VPN and connect before browsing
This will mask your IP address and prevent websites from detecting even your general region.
You want to know the expected battery lifespan of your Ghost Phone.
Answer: Ghost Phone models run on recent Google Pixel hardware with solid battery life.
Battery expectations:
Daily battery life: Full day of use on a single charge with normal usage
Long-term battery health: 3-5 years before noticeable degradation occurs
Current condition: Your phone's battery health is still excellent
Batteries naturally degrade over time based on charge cycles. To maximize battery life:
Avoid letting your battery fully drain regularly
Keep your phone in moderate temperatures (avoid extreme heat or cold)
Use the included charger or certified USB-C chargers
If you experience unusual battery drain, contact support@zeroghost.comm for assistance.
You switched from iPhone to Android (like a Pixel with GrapheneOS) and you're receiving calls but not text messages from iPhone users. Root Cause: Your phone number is still registered with Apple's iMessage system. When iPhone users text you, their phones try to send iMessages (blue bubbles) instead of regular SMS texts (green bubbles), so the messages never reach your Android phone.
On Your Old iPhone: Settings → Messages → Turn OFF iMessage. Then Settings → FaceTime → Turn OFF FaceTime. Keep both OFF, don't turn them back on.
On Your MacBook/iMac: Open Messages app → Messages → Settings → iMessage → Sign Out of iMessage completely. Then open FaceTime app → FaceTime → Settings → Sign Out of FaceTime completely.
On Your iPad: Settings → Messages → Turn OFF iMessage. Then Settings → FaceTime → Turn OFF FaceTime.
On Your Apple Watch: On your iPhone: Watch app → My Watch → Messages → Turn OFF iMessage. Or unpair the watch completely if you're no longer using it.
Official Deregistration: After turning off iMessage/FaceTime on all devices, go to https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage. Enter your phone number, request the confirmation code (sent via SMS to your new Android phone), and enter the code to complete deregistration.
Wait 12-48 hours: This process takes 12-48 hours to fully propagate through Apple's systems. You won't receive texts from iPhone users immediately, be patient.
Speed Up the Process: Ask your iPhone contacts to delete your existing text conversation with them and start a brand new message to you. This forces their phone to send SMS instead of trying iMessage.
Verification: You'll know it's working when iPhone users' messages show up as green bubbles on their end instead of blue. That means they're sending SMS texts that your Android phone can receive.
You just got your Ghost Phone and need to move all your contacts over from your old Android phone so you don't lose anyone's number.
On Your Old Android Phone: Open the Contacts app on your old phone
Tap Select All to highlight every contact (you can usually find this by tapping the three dots in the top corner, or by long-pressing one contact and then tapping "Select All")
Tap the Share button (it looks like three dots connected by lines, or an arrow pointing up)
Choose Email and send it to an email address you can access on your Ghost Phone (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, etc.)
Your phone will automatically bundle all your contacts into one file and attach it to the email. Just hit Send.
On Your Ghost Phone: Open your email app and find the email you just sent yourself
Tap the attached file at the bottom of the email
Your Ghost Phone will automatically ask if you want to import the contacts. Tap Import.
Done. All of your contacts are now on your Ghost Phone.
Troubleshooting - Can't find "Select All": On some Android phones, go to Contacts, tap the three dots (Menu), then Settings, then Export. Your phone will create a file with all your contacts in it. Then share that file to your email.
Troubleshooting - Contacts didn't come through: Make sure you check all accounts on your old phone. Some phones split contacts between "Phone," "Google," and "Samsung" accounts. Tap the three dots in the Contacts app and look for a filter option to make sure all contacts are showing before you share them.
Troubleshooting - Seeing duplicate contacts: Open the Contacts app on your Ghost Phone, tap the three dots, and look for "Merge Duplicates" to clean them up.
You just got your Ghost Phone and need to move all your contacts over from your iPhone so you don't lose anyone's number.
Important: Unlike Android, iPhones do not let you share all your contacts at once directly from the phone. The easiest way to do this is by using a computer. It only takes a few minutes.
Step 1: Make Sure Your iPhone Contacts Are Backed Up to iCloud - On your iPhone, go to Settings → Tap your name at the very top of the screen → Tap iCloud → Tap Show All (under Apps Using iCloud) → Make sure Contacts is toggled ON (green). If it's already on, you're good. If not, turn it on and give it a minute to sync.
Step 2: Download Your Contacts from iCloud (On a Computer) - On a computer (Mac or PC), open a web browser and go to icloud.com → Sign in with your Apple ID (the same one you use on your iPhone) → Click on Contacts → Click the three dots menu at the top and choose Select All Contacts (or press Ctrl+A on PC / Command+A on Mac) → Click the Share button in the top right corner and choose Export vCard → A file containing ALL of your contacts will download to your computer
Step 3: Send the File to Your Ghost Phone - Open your email (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, etc.) on the computer → Compose a new email to yourself (an email you can access on your Ghost Phone) → Attach the contacts file you just downloaded (it will be in your Downloads folder) → Hit Send
Step 4: Import Contacts on Your Ghost Phone - On your Ghost Phone, open your email app and find the email you just sent → Tap the attached file at the bottom of the email → Your Ghost Phone will automatically ask if you want to import the contacts. Tap Import. → Done. All of your contacts are now on your Ghost Phone.
Don't Have Access to a Computer? If you don't have a computer available, you can still transfer contacts one at a time from your iPhone: Open the Contacts app on your iPhone → Tap on a contact → Scroll down and tap Share Contact → Choose Email or Messages and send it to yourself → Open it on your Ghost Phone to save that contact. This works fine for a handful of important contacts, but if you have a lot of contacts, using a computer with the steps above is much faster.
Troubleshooting - Can't sign into iCloud.com: Make sure you're using the same Apple ID and password from your iPhone. If you have two-factor authentication turned on, Apple will send a code to your iPhone that you'll need to enter on the computer.
Troubleshooting - Contacts didn't come through: Make sure iCloud Contacts is turned on (Step 1 above) and give it a few minutes to sync before exporting from icloud.com.
Troubleshooting - Seeing duplicate contacts: Open the Contacts app on your Ghost Phone, tap the three dots, and look for "Merge Duplicates" to clean them up.
Troubleshooting - Not receiving texts from iPhone users after switching: This is a separate issue. You need to deregister your number from iMessage. See our guide: "Fix: Not Receiving Texts After Switching from iPhone to The Ghost Phone."
You just got your Ghost Phone and want to move your photos and videos over from your iPhone so you don't lose your memories.
Method 1: Using a Computer (Best for Large Photo Libraries) - This is the fastest way to move ALL your photos at once, especially if you have hundreds or thousands of pictures.
Plug your iPhone into your computer using your iPhone charging cable
If your iPhone asks "Trust This Computer?" tap Trust and enter your passcode
On a Windows PC: Open File Explorer and click on your iPhone under "This PC." Open the folder called DCIM. This is where all your photos and videos are stored.
On a Mac: Open the Photos app or Image Capture app. Your iPhone photos will appear automatically.
Select all the photos you want (press Ctrl+A on PC or Command+A on Mac to select everything) and copy them to a folder on your computer (like your Desktop or a folder called "iPhone Photos")
Unplug your iPhone and plug in your Ghost Phone using its USB-C cable
Your Ghost Phone will show up as a drive on your computer. Open it and find the DCIM folder (or the Pictures folder)
Copy and paste all the photos from your computer into that folder on your Ghost Phone
Done. Open the Photos app on your Ghost Phone and all your pictures will be there.
Method 2: Email Yourself Photos (Best for Smaller Batches) - If you only have a few dozen photos to move and don't have a computer handy:
Open the Photos app on your iPhone
Tap Select in the top right corner
Tap each photo you want to send (you can send about 20-25 at a time via email)
Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up)
Choose Mail and send them to an email address you can access on your Ghost Phone
On your Ghost Phone, open the email and download the photos
Repeat until you've sent everything you need
Troubleshooting - Photos look blurry on the computer: Your iPhone may have the originals stored in iCloud instead of on the phone. On your iPhone, go to Settings → Photos and tap "Download and Keep Originals." Wait for them to download before transferring.
Troubleshooting - Computer doesn't recognize iPhone: Make sure your iPhone is unlocked when you plug it in. You may need to tap "Trust This Computer" on your iPhone screen.
Troubleshooting - Photos won't open on Ghost Phone: iPhones save some photos in a format called HEIC. Most Android phones can read these, but if you have trouble, go to iPhone Settings → Camera → Formats and select "Most Compatible" before taking new photos. For existing photos, the computer transfer method usually converts them automatically.
You have important voicemails saved on your iPhone that you want to keep before switching to The Ghost Phone.
Important: iPhones do not let you save all your voicemails at once. You will need to save them one at a time. We recommend doing this BEFORE you switch to your Ghost Phone.
On your iPhone, open the Phone app
Tap the "Voicemail" tab at the bottom right of the screen
Tap on the first voicemail you want to save
Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up)
Choose "Mail" and send it to an email address you can access on your Ghost Phone
The voicemail will be sent as an audio file attached to the email. Hit Send.
Repeat Steps 4-7 for each voicemail you want to keep (it only takes a few seconds per voicemail)
Once you've emailed all the voicemails you want to save, switch to your Ghost Phone
On your Ghost Phone, open your email app and find the emails you sent yourself
Tap the audio file attachment in each email to listen to or download your saved voicemails
Done. Your voicemails are now saved and accessible anytime from your email or your Ghost Phone's storage.
Tip: If you have a LOT of voicemails, you can also tap Share → "Save to Files" on your iPhone to save them all to one place, then transfer them to your Ghost Phone using a computer (same process as transferring photos).
Tip: Your voicemails will stay in your email forever, so even if something happens to your phone down the road, you'll always have a backup copy.
You're switching from an iPhone to The Ghost Phone and want to save important text conversations before making the switch.
Important: Apple does not allow you to transfer your full text message history from an iPhone to any Android device. This is an Apple limitation, not a Ghost Phone issue. There is no app or setting that can move all your iPhone texts over in one step.
Before you switch, go through your text messages and save anything important using one of the methods below.
Method 1 - Screenshot important conversations: Open a conversation in Messages, scroll to the part you want to save, and take a screenshot (press the Side Button + Volume Up at the same time). Screenshots are saved to your Photos and can be transferred to your Ghost Phone with the rest of your pictures.
Method 2 - Forward important messages to your email: Open a conversation in Messages and long-press on a specific message you want to save
Tap "More..." when the menu appears
Tap the circles next to each message in that conversation you want to keep
Tap the Forward arrow (bottom right of the screen)
Type in your email address as the recipient and hit Send
The selected messages will be sent to your email where you can access them anytime from your Ghost Phone
Repeat Steps 4-9 for any other conversations you want to save
Once you're on your Ghost Phone, all NEW text messages will come through like normal. This only affects your old message history from your iPhone.
Important: If you use WhatsApp, your chat history CAN be transferred. When you set up WhatsApp on your Ghost Phone, the app will walk you through the transfer process step by step.
Important: If you use Signal, message history does NOT transfer from iPhone to Android. You will start fresh on your Ghost Phone. Send your Signal contacts a message letting them know you switched to a new device.
Troubleshooting: If you're not receiving text messages from iPhone users after switching, that's a separate issue. See our guide: "Fix: Not Receiving Texts After Switching from iPhone to The Ghost Phone."
F-Droid is an open-source app store that gives you access to privacy-respecting apps without any Google tracking. Get it running on your Ghost Phone in under 5 minutes.
Open Vanadium Browser: Your Ghost Phone comes with Vanadium, the privacy-hardened browser. Find it in your app drawer.
Navigate to F-Droid: Type this into the address bar: f-droid.org
Download the App: Tap the big "Download F-Droid" button. You'll see a warning that this file type can harm your device (this is normal for any APK installation). Tap "OK" to continue the download.
Install F-Droid: Open your notification shade and tap the downloaded file. If this is your first time installing an APK, you'll need to grant Vanadium permission to install apps.
Grant Permission: Tap "Settings" → Enable "Allow from this source" → Go back. Then tap "Install" and tap "Open" when installation completes.
Initial Setup: F-Droid will ask for permission to access your storage (this lets it download apps). Grant the permission. The app will update its repository list (this takes about 30 seconds).
You're Done: F-Droid is now ready to use. You can browse thousands of open-source, privacy-respecting apps including Signal (encrypted messaging), Organic Maps (Google Maps alternative), NewPipe (YouTube without ads or tracking), KeePassDX (password manager), and thousands more.
Pro Tip - Keep F-Droid Updated: F-Droid will notify you when updates are available for both the F-Droid app itself and apps you've installed through it.
Pro Tip - Verify App Permissions: Before installing any app, tap on it and scroll down to see what permissions it requests. F-Droid makes this transparent.
Pro Tip - Check Anti-Features: F-Droid tags apps with anti-features like "Tracks You" or "Non-Free Network Services" so you know exactly what you're getting.
Why F-Droid: Unlike the Google Play Store, F-Droid only hosts open-source apps (the code is public and auditable), doesn't track what you download or search for, doesn't require an account, builds apps from source code to verify they match what developers claim, and clearly labels any privacy concerns. Your Ghost Phone + F-Droid = Maximum privacy with zero compromises.
Aurora Store is a free, open-source alternative to the Google Play Store. It lets you download apps directly from Google's servers without needing a Google account or Google Play Services. Your Ghost Phone already runs GrapheneOS, so Aurora Store is the easiest way to get the apps you need while keeping your privacy intact.
Step 1: Open Your Browser - Open the Vanadium browser (the default browser on your Ghost Phone).
Step 2: Go to the Aurora Store Website - Navigate to auroraoss.com and tap to download the latest stable version of the Aurora Store APK.
Step 3: Allow the Download - Your phone may ask you to confirm the download. Tap "Download" or "OK" to proceed.
Step 4: Open the APK File - Once the download is complete, tap the notification or locate the file in your Downloads folder and tap it.
Step 5: Allow Installation from This Source - Your Ghost Phone will prompt you to allow Vanadium to install unknown apps. Tap "Settings" when prompted, toggle on "Allow from this source," then go back and tap "Install."
Step 6: Open Aurora Store - Once installed, tap "Open" to launch Aurora Store.
Step 7: Choose Anonymous Login - When prompted to choose a login method, select Anonymous. This lets you browse and download apps without linking any Google account. (If you need access to paid apps you've already purchased, you can use a Google login instead, but Anonymous is recommended for maximum privacy.)
Step 8: Start Downloading Apps - Use the search bar to find any app you need. Tap on the app, then tap "Install." The first time you install an app through Aurora Store, you'll need to grant it permission to install apps on your device.
Tips: Aurora Store pulls apps directly from Google's servers, so the apps are identical to what you'd get from the Play Store. Some apps require Google Play Services to function. If you run into issues, you may need to install Sandboxed Google Play Services (separate guide). You can manage updates for all your apps directly through Aurora Store.
Need to use Google apps (like Gmail) but want to maintain privacy on your GrapheneOS Ghost Phone
Why this matters: GrapheneOS lets you use Google apps WITHOUT giving Google system-level access. On regular Android, Google Play Services has deep system access and tracks everything. On GrapheneOS, it's just another sandboxed app with zero special privileges.
Install Sandboxed Google Play: Open the Apps app (shopping bag icon), find "Google Play Store (mirror)" in the list, tap Install, tap "Allow from this source" when prompted, tap "Allow access to Android/obb folder", and wait 1-2 minutes for installation to complete.

Set Up Play Store: Open the Play Store app from your app drawer, sign in with your Google account, and accept Google's terms of service.

Install Apps: You can now install any app from the Play Store (Gmail, Maps, etc.) and they'll all run in the sandbox.
Managing Permissions: To see or change what Google can access: Settings → Apps → See all apps → Find "Google Play Services" → Tap Permissions → Revoke any permissions you don't want Google to have. You can disable or uninstall Google Play Services anytime without affecting your phone's core functionality.
Does this compromise my privacy? No. GrapheneOS's sandboxing means Google apps work normally but can't track you at the system level. You maintain control over what data Google can access, something impossible on regular Android or iPhone.
You use Microsoft Office Suite for personal or business use and need apps like Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, and Excel to work on your Ghost Phone. Out of the box, these apps aren't available because your Ghost Phone runs GrapheneOS, which removes Google Play Services by default for your privacy. Without Google Play Services, most apps from the Google Play Store can't be installed or run properly. The good news is that GrapheneOS supports installing Google Play Services in a sandboxed (secure) mode, giving you full app compatibility while still maintaining far more privacy than a standard phone.
Step 1: Install Sandboxed Google Play Services - Go to ghostphone.co/resources, in the search bar type in "How to install Google Play Store (mirror)", and go through those instructions to download the sandboxed Google Play Store
Step 2: Sign Into Google Play Store - Open the Play Store app on your Ghost Phone and sign in with a Google account
Privacy tip: You can create a brand new Google account just for app downloads. It doesn't need to be your main personal account.
Step 3: Download Your Microsoft Apps - Open the Google Play Store and search for and install the Microsoft apps you need: Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft 365 (Office) (this is the all-in-one app that includes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Sign into each app with your personal or company credentials as you normally would
Step 4: If Your Company Uses a Specific App or Portal - If your company has a proprietary app or MDM (Mobile Device Management) profile, install that through the Play Store as well
Some MDM solutions may require you to set up a separate Work Profile. GrapheneOS supports this under Settings → System → Multiple users, or it may prompt you during setup automatically
Why This Works: The beauty of sandboxed Google Play on GrapheneOS is that Google Play Services runs as a regular app, not with the deep system-level access it has on a normal Android phone. This means you get full compatibility with Microsoft Office and other apps while keeping significantly more privacy than a standard device.
You're trying to log into your company's portal (Microsoft Intune) and getting an "Unable to create work profile" error.
This error comes from your company's IT system (Microsoft Intune), not from the Ghost Phone itself. Your device is working correctly.
Intune requires devices to pass Google's certification checks. Because GrapheneOS prioritizes your privacy over Google's ecosystem, Intune sees it as a non-compliant device.
Contact your company's IT department and ask if they can whitelist your device or adjust the compliance policy.
If your company cannot adjust the policy, we recommend using a separate standard device for work apps that require corporate device management, and keeping your Ghost Phone for personal and private use.
You need to access your company's Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Calendar, etc.) on your Ghost Phone.
Most Google Workspace accounts work perfectly on your Ghost Phone. You can access everything through the browser or by installing Google apps through the Aurora Store or sandboxed Google Play Services.
If your company requires device enrollment through Google Endpoint Management, you may see errors similar to "Unable to create work profile." This is a restriction set by your company's IT team, not an issue with your device.
If you are unable to enroll your device, try accessing your Google Workspace through the browser instead. Most features (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Calendar) work fully in the browser without needing device enrollment.
If your company blocks browser access and requires device enrollment, contact your IT department to request a policy exception, or use a separate standard device for work access.
Some apps you need require Google services, but you want to maintain as much privacy and security as possible while using them
General Strategies:
Sandboxed Google Play: Use GrapheneOS's built-in feature that isolates Google services in a separate profile for better security
Separate User Profiles: Keep sensitive activities isolated by creating different profiles for different purposes
Web App Versions: Access services through Vanadium browser instead of installing apps (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
F-Droid Store: Look for FOSS (Free and Open Source) alternatives that respect your privacy
Aurora Store: Get anonymous access to Play Store apps without a Google account
Disable Network Permissions: For apps that don't actually need internet access
Work Profile with Shelter: Keeps apps contained and isolated from your main profile
Specific App Categories:
Banking apps: Usually work fine without Google services on GrapheneOS
Social media: Use browser versions instead of apps for better privacy
Maps: Use OsmAnd or Organic Maps instead of Google Maps
Email: Use FairEmail or K-9 Mail instead of Gmail app
Cloud storage: Use Nextcloud instead of Google Drive/Dropbox
Messaging: Use Signal, SimpleX, or Element instead of WhatsApp
When You Must Use Google Services:
Install in a separate user profile dedicated to apps that need Google services
Only use those apps when absolutely necessary
Understand you're trading some privacy for convenience, but GrapheneOS sandboxing still provides better protection than stock Android
You want to share your location with friends or family, but most location-sharing apps require Google services that compromise privacy
Signal: Has limited location sharing for messages (one-time share only)
Telegram FOSS: Can share live location temporarily without Google services
OwnTracks: Self-hosted location tracking solution for advanced users who want complete control
Important Note: There is no true "Find My Friends" equivalent on GrapheneOS without privacy compromises. Most location-sharing apps require Google services to function properly.
The options above provide temporary or limited location sharing while maintaining better privacy than mainstream alternatives
You need a weather app that provides accurate forecasts without tracking your location or personal data
Geometric Weather: Open source with a clean, modern interface
Breezy Weather: Fork of Geometric Weather with active updates and improvements
omWeather: Simple and privacy-respecting weather app
These apps pull from public weather APIs without tracking your activity or location history

Why Aurora Store? It gives you anonymous access to millions of Android apps without requiring a Google account. Your privacy stays intact.
Proton Mail is an end-to-end encrypted email service built in Switzerland, where some of the strongest privacy laws in the world protect your data. No one can read your emails. Not Proton. Not your internet provider. Not the government. If you're using Gmail, Yahoo, or Outlook on your Ghost Phone, you're defeating the purpose.
Open Aurora Store on your Ghost Phone.
Tap the search bar and type Proton Mail.
Tap on the Proton Mail app from the results.
Tap Install and wait for the download to complete.
Tap Open to launch the app.
Tap Create an account if you're new, or Sign in if you already have a Proton account.
When creating an account, you do not need to provide a recovery email or phone number. Skip it if you want maximum privacy.
Why It Matters: Gmail scans your inbox to build a profile on you. Proton Mail uses zero-access encryption, meaning even Proton's own servers cannot read your messages. All data is stored in Switzerland under Swiss jurisdiction, outside the reach of US surveillance programs.
A VPN encrypts your internet traffic and hides your real IP address from every website, app, and network you connect to. Without one, your cellular carrier and internet provider can see every site you visit and every connection your phone makes. Proton VPN is one of the only trustworthy VPN providers that offers a free tier with no data limits and no ads.
Open Aurora Store on your Ghost Phone.
Tap the search bar and type Proton VPN.
Tap on the Proton VPN app from the results.
Tap Install and wait for the download to complete.
Tap Open to launch the app.
Sign in with your Proton account or create one.
Tap Quick Connect to instantly connect to the fastest available server.
Your phone will ask you to allow Proton VPN to set up a VPN connection. Tap OK.
Why It Matters: Your IP address is a digital fingerprint. Every site you visit logs it. Your ISP sells your browsing history to data brokers. A VPN puts a wall between you and all of that. Proton VPN has a strict no-logs policy, is based in Switzerland, and has been independently audited.
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is one of the simplest ways to protect your accounts from being hacked. Instead of relying on SMS codes (which can be intercepted through SIM swapping), Proton Authenticator generates time-based codes directly on your device. No network connection required. No phone number needed.
Open Aurora Store on your Ghost Phone.
Tap the search bar and type Proton Authenticator.
Tap on the app from the results.
Tap Install and wait for the download to complete.
Tap Open to launch the app.
Sign in with your Proton account.
To add an account, tap the + button and scan the QR code provided by any service that supports 2FA (email, social media, banking, etc.).
Why It Matters: SMS-based 2FA is not secure. Hackers use SIM swap attacks to steal your phone number and intercept those codes. Proton Authenticator keeps your codes encrypted and stored locally on your device. If you use a Proton account, your 2FA tokens can be backed up with end-to-end encryption so you never lose them.
Most people reuse the same 2 or 3 passwords across dozens of accounts. When one of those services gets breached (and they do, constantly), every account using that password is compromised. Proton Pass generates and stores unique, complex passwords for every account you have, locked behind one master password and end-to-end encryption.
Open Aurora Store on your Ghost Phone.
Tap the search bar and type Proton Pass.
Tap on the app from the results.
Tap Install and wait for the download to complete.
Tap Open to launch the app.
Sign in with your Proton account.
Go to your phone's Settings → Passwords & Accounts → Autofill service and select Proton Pass as your default autofill provider. This lets Proton Pass auto-fill your login credentials across all apps and websites.
Why It Matters: Unlike password managers from Google or Apple, Proton Pass uses end-to-end encryption. Proton cannot see your passwords, notes, or stored data. It also includes email alias generation, letting you create burner email addresses for signups so your real email stays hidden.
Your web browser knows more about you than almost any other app on your phone. It tracks every site you visit, every search you make, and every ad you see. Brave blocks all of that by default. No trackers. No third-party ads. No fingerprinting. Right out of the box, with zero configuration needed.
Open Aurora Store on your Ghost Phone.
Tap the search bar and type Brave Browser.
Tap on the Brave Browser app from the results.
Tap Install and wait for the download to complete.
Tap Open to launch the app.
Follow the brief setup prompts. Brave will ask if you want to set it as your default browser. Tap Set as Default for full protection across all links you open.
For maximum privacy, go to Settings → Brave Shields & Privacy and make sure shields are set to Aggressive.
Why It Matters: Chrome, Safari, and Edge are built by companies whose business model is advertising. They need your data to make money. Brave is built on the same Chromium engine as Chrome, so every website works the same, but it strips out all the surveillance. Brave blocks an average of 3x more trackers than other browsers and loads pages faster because it isn't weighed down by ad scripts.
You just inserted your Straight Talk SIM into your Ghost Phone but aren't sure if it runs on AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon — and you need to know before entering APN settings.
Check your SIM card packaging — it will say which network it uses.
If you don't have the packaging, text the word APN to 611611 from your Ghost Phone and Straight Talk will automatically push the correct settings to your device.
Your Straight Talk SIM runs on AT&T and you need to manually configure your APN settings to get data and MMS working.
Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Access Point Names → tap + to add new.
Enter the following: Name: Straight Talk AT&T | APN: tfdata | MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net | MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net | MMS Port: 80 | MCC: 310 | MNC: 410 | Auth Type: PAP | APN Type: default,admin,fora,mms,supl,hipri | Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
Tap the three-dot menu → Save.
Select the new APN.
Restart your phone and test data and MMS.
Your Straight Talk SIM runs on T-Mobile and you need to manually configure your APN settings to get data and MMS working.
Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Access Point Names → tap + to add new.
Enter the following: Name: Straight Talk T-Mobile | APN: wap.tracfone | Port: 8080 | MMSC: http://mms.tracfone.com | MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.40 | MMS Port: 8080 | MCC: 310 | MNC: 260 | APN Type: default,admin,fora,mms,supl,hipri | Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
Tap the three-dot menu → Save.
Select the new APN.
Restart your phone and test data and MMS.
Your Straight Talk SIM runs on Verizon and you need to manually configure your APN settings to get data and MMS working.
Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Access Point Names → tap + to add new.
Enter the following: Name: Straight Talk Verizon | APN: VZWINTERNET | MMSC: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms | MMS Proxy: Not Set | MCC: 311 | MNC: 480 | APN Type: default | Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
Tap the three-dot menu → Save.
Select the new APN.
Restart your phone and test data and MMS.
You entered your Straight Talk APN settings on your Ghost Phone but data or picture messages still aren't working.
First, double-check every field for typos — one wrong character breaks everything.
Restart your phone.
If still not working, delete the APN you created and text APN to 611611 to have Straight Talk push settings automatically.
If that fails, call Straight Talk support at 1-877-430-2355 and ask them to reprovision your SIM for data.
The speaker on your Ghost Phone is difficult to hear, especially when wearing hearing aids.
Go to Settings > Sound & vibration
Increase "Ring & notification volume" to maximum
Increase "Alarm volume" to maximum
During calls, use the volume buttons on the side of your phone to increase call volume to maximum
Go to Settings > Accessibility to explore additional audio enhancement options
Consider pairing Bluetooth hearing aids or a Bluetooth headset for clearer audio
Note: If you believe you received a defective device, contact support@zeroghost.comm for a replacement. We can send you a return label and ship a new device as early as the same day.
You want to know if your Ghost Phone will work on European cellular networks
Yes, it'll work on most European networks for calls, texts, and data. It supports the main 4G/5G bands used across the UK, Germany, France, and most EU countries.
One heads up: VoLTE (HD voice calling) and WiFi Calling might not work on all European carriers since those features need carrier approval. If that happens, calls will just use 3G instead - still works fine, just slightly lower call quality. Data and texting work normally.
Note: We currently only ship within the United States.
You want to know if your Ghost Phone will work on Canadian cellular networks
Yes, fully. It works on all major Canadian carriers (Rogers, Bell, Telus, Freedom Mobile, etc.) with full 4G/5G support.
VoLTE and WiFi Calling should work fine too since Canadian carriers generally support these features on Pixel devices.
Note: We currently only ship within the United States.
You want to order a Ghost Phone but live outside the United States
We currently ship within the United States only.
Orders typically ship within 1-3 business days and arrive within 5-7 business days. You will receive a tracking number once your order ships.
For questions, please email support@zeroghost.com.
When opening the Apps store on GrapheneOS, you get an error: "App update check failed. Unable to resolve the server name" with java.net.UnknownHostException
Open Settings
Tap Network & internet
Tap Private DNS
Select "Private DNS provider hostname"
Enter: dns.google
Tap Save
Open the Apps app, it should now load properly
When trying to download Google Play Store (mirror), you get an error: "Unable to download Google Play services, Google Play Store: Unable to resolve the server name" with java.net.UnknownHostException: Unable to resolve host "apps.grapheneos.org": No address associated with hostname
First Try - Disable VPN: If you have a VPN enabled either on your modem/network or on your phone, turn it off completely and try to redownload Google Play Store Google (mirror) from the Apps app.
If that doesn't work, try these network troubleshooting steps:
Toggle Airplane Mode: Turn on Airplane mode for 5 seconds, then turn it off. This resets your network connection.
Switch Networks: If you're on WiFi, try cellular data (or vice versa). This will tell you if the issue is network-specific.
Change DNS Settings (Option 1 - Cloudflare): Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Internet → Tap the gear icon next to your WiFi network → Tap the pencil icon to edit → Change "IP settings" from DHCP to Static → Scroll down to DNS 1 and DNS 2 → Enter DNS 1: 1.1.1.1 and DNS 2: 1.0.0.1 → Save and try again.
Change DNS Settings (Option 2 - Google): Follow the same steps as above, but enter DNS 1: 8.8.8.8 and DNS 2: 8.8.4.4 instead.
Restart Your Phone: Sometimes the network stack just needs a reset. Power off your phone completely, wait 10 seconds, then power it back on.
Verify the Issue: If none of the above work, open Vanadium browser and try to access https://apps.grapheneos.org. If it won't load there either, it's definitely a network/DNS issue on your end.
Still Not Working? The issue might be temporary server maintenance on GrapheneOS's end, or your ISP/network is blocking the domain. Wait 30 minutes and try again, or contact your ISP to ask if they're blocking apps.grapheneos.org.

Yes! We offer interest-free installment payments through Shop Pay at checkout. Split your Ghost Phone into 4 bi-weekly payments with zero interest. Amazon Pay and PayPal are also accepted.
No, you do NOT need antivirus software. GrapheneOS is built from the ground up for security with hardened architecture that makes traditional viruses and malware extremely difficult to install. Adding antivirus would be redundant and could reduce your privacy.
Yes! Your Ghost Phone has full GPS capability with complete privacy. The key difference is that YOUR phone processes GPS signals locally — nothing is sent to Google, Apple, or any third party. The GPS hardware works completely offline. No internet connection is required for GPS functionality.
Expect a full day of use on a single charge with normal usage, and 3–5 years before noticeable battery degradation.
Yes. The Ghost Phone is fully unlocked and works with all major US carriers. Simply insert your existing SIM card and you're good to go. OR setup an eSIM for a quicker, more convenient setup.
Yes, but you can fix that. Switch to a privacy-focused carrier like Phreeli.com that requires zero personal information: no name, no address, nothing. If they don't collect your data, they can't hand it over or sell it.
Your Ghost Phone protects you from surveillance and tracking — it stops Big Tech, apps, and governments from monitoring your location, contacts, and activity. However, it does NOT automatically block spam calls or texts. To verify it's working: (1) Check Settings > About Phone — you should see "GrapheneOS", (2) Confirm Google Play Services is not pre-installed, (3) Check Settings > Privacy for granular app controls, and (4) Look for green indicator dots when your camera or microphone is active.
No. GrapheneOS has hardened security architecture built in. Antivirus software would be redundant and could actually reduce your privacy.
We currently only ship within the United States. However, the Ghost Phone works in most countries — so if you are outside the US, you can have it shipped to a US address and use it internationally.
Yes, it'll work on most European networks for calls, texts, and data. It supports the main 4G/5G bands used across the UK, Germany, France, and most EU countries.
Yes, fully. It works on all major Canadian carriers (Rogers, Bell, Telus, Freedom Mobile, etc.) with full 4G/5G support.
Yes. The Ghost Phone works with all major mobile carriers including GSM networks worldwide — including major Mexican providers like Telcel, AT&T Mexico, and Movistar.
What you're seeing is IP-based geolocation, not GPS tracking. When you connect to WiFi or cellular data, websites can estimate your general area (usually within 10–50 miles) based on your internet provider's location. To prevent even IP-based detection, use a VPN like Proton VPN.
Phreeli's "Double-Blind Armadillo" system splits your name, payment, and phone activity into isolated databases that cannot talk to each other. From a corporate surveillance standpoint, your network is genuinely more secure. However, Phreeli runs on T-Mobile's network and federal agencies with warrants can subpoena T-Mobile directly. When you pair Phreeli with a Ghost Phone running GrapheneOS, you close two very different vulnerabilities at once — Phreeli handles the carrier level, GrapheneOS handles the device level.
No. Your Ghost Phone works completely without a Google account. You can install apps through F-Droid or Aurora Store (which allows anonymous downloads) without ever creating or logging into a Google account.
GrapheneOS removes the commercial surveillance layer — Big Tech, advertisers, and data brokers are effectively blocked. Targeted government surveillance via cell towers is a different threat model. Pairing your Ghost Phone with a privacy carrier like Phreeli significantly reduces that exposure too.
